Modeling Power Flow within a Microgrid for Energy Storage Sizing

Abstract

This paper presents the issue of modeling dynamic power flow for a microgrid, which is connected to the utility distribution system. The microgrid includes a wind turbine, photovoltaic panels, as well as generalized energy storage and a local load. The installation of such a system in a specific location requires the study of its components configuration and management. The aim of the study is elaboration of a tool for calculating optimal capacity an energy storage device within the selected ratings of the wind turbine and photovoltaic panels of the microgrid. Modeling power flow in the microgrid is proceeded taking into account seasonal wind and solar activities, temperature and using the corresponding load active power profile.
